Celebrity sighting... in Sacrament meeting??

Today was our first day back in the Lincoln Square Chapel, which was so great. It's so much easier to get to and is so much nicer. Not to mention that it is all on one floor instead of spread out over 3 or 4 floors. Anyway... guess who was in Sacrament meeting today???

......

No guesses??

Ok, since the suspense is just killing you, I'm sure, I will just tell you...

Ace Young from American Idol.

He has been playing the part of Kinicke in the Broadway production of Grease, which closes today. The girl he was with bore her testimony, and she said she was an actor and the show she has been in for the past 2 years was closing today, so I imagine that is how she knows him. Not that I talked to him. I was never a big fan of Ace myself. He past right by me while I was putting things in the stroller, so I got a good look at him... in real life he is pretty short and skinny. His muscles are super cut, and he has a TINY waist.  I guess that's the look they go for. Regardless of my lack of support for him on A.I., it was cool to see him in our Sacrament meeting. I couldn't help wondering what he was thinking about it.

Oh yeah, and Nate thinks that I should mention that Marlin K. Jenson from the Quorum of the Seventy and Richard Bushman, author of Rough Stone Rolling, were also in our ward today.  Richard Bushman is actually in our ward, which is cool.

Wow - Ace! I wasn't a big fan of him either but it's still fun to see someone famous!

Mitt Romeny was in our Stake in Boston and a few General Authorities are in Connor's home ward. When you live in places like that you get quite the crowd.

I was surprised to see your blog about Ace Young attending your function. I would think that someone coming in to give their testament should be a private affair, not one that is talked about on the internet.

dear anonymous, i don't know who you are (obviously). i don't know if you are my friend, or just a random person reading my blog. i don't know if you are a member of our church (i assume not). but i said nothing of ace giving his testimony, and i said nothing of him being affiliated with our church in any way. i don't know if you are familiar with a fast and testimony meeting (which was the type of meeting he attended) but one way that it could be described would be people making a public declaration of the things one believes. not everyone bears their testimony, it is a choice. our church is open to visitors, so even those who have not been baptized as a member of our church are welcome to attend, and it is wonderful when they do, whether they are interested in the church or not. i assume that ace was there with his friend as a visitor, and was not there to bear his testimony. which if he was, that's great, but i made no mention of that in my post, and whether it was the reason for him coming or not, is irrelevant to the point of my post. all i said was that i saw ace young, and it happened to be in my church building. i also believe that i said nothing of what his friend talked about in her testimony (aside from things referring to her career). which i agree, it is not my place to talk about one's testimony, even if it has been borne in a public place. it is a personal and sacred thing that people choose to share while in a safe environment with people they trust. i would never do so (if i was naming the person, which i did not) without that person's consent.

i am sorry if i have offended you in any way, but i do not believe that i have done or said anything that is inappropriate.

As an Ace Young fan myself, it is nice to read about him from others who may have seen or met him. I have to beg to differ, though, on his size: Ace is 6'1". His brother, Ryan, is 6'7", so if the brother was there, too, I can understand that you might think he is short. But he is not consider short at all by many, even though he himself says that he is the shortest of the 5 boys in his family. He has played a great Kenickie, as I have understood from those that have seen him, and he did it for the last time on Jan. 4. Broadway is closing down, unfortunately, because of the economy, so Ace had to finish his run on "Grease" 2 weeks early.

Ace's mother is Mormon. He's probably attended many services like this one.

Wish you'd given him more of a chance on American Idol. He's a great guy. He has a good CD out too. Give him a listen. You might be surprised.

Just wondering if you think everything you wrote in your blog was ok, then why did you edit a bunch of it out?

Did you know that your blog went out to every Ace fan & family of Ace who has a google alert set up for him?

It's a shame someone can't even go to church without someone writing about it.

anonymous~ that particular SENTENCE that I edited out about 5 minutes after i published it i do not think was fine, which is why i took it out. i AM sorry for that. thank you for your comment. i will try and be more sensitive about the things that i write in my blog posts knowing that it may reach more people than i realize.

I'm one of the many fans that got an alert from your blog. I didn't think some of your comments were kind - so happy that you edited. He may have been attending with his mom and that friend, who I believe is an active member. I don't mean to make a problem, but this seems to me to be a very private thing and it seemed inappropriate to me that you were judging him on his appearance at such a solemn event.

As a VERY dedicated/long time Ace Young fan myself...I am very surprised at these comments left by other Ace fans here. Honestly, it's quite embarrassing! When I first read this blog I thought no such thing about the comments that have been made. Big deal! She wrote about seeing Ace in a church. OMG! You guys need to get a grip!!! And so what if she described him that way...everyone has their own opinion..not everyone thinks he's GOD!! Sorry gals!!

Ace was raised LDS, and his Mom is still LDS .... I'm glad to hear that he attended your church's meeting .... Good for him :-)
