A must see...

On Friday night I turned on the tv to the edited version of Bridget Jones Diary. I am a huge fan of Colin Firth, so after watching it, I was craving to watch something else with him in it. Well, normally I would just pop in the good old BBC Pride & Prejudice, but Nate some how convinced me not to bring our VCR, thus making it pointless to bring our VHS tapes... sad, I know. Anyhoo, so last night I was perusing through the instant movies on Netflix and remembered a recommendation from my friend Lark. She said that North and South was a remarkable movie and Pride and Prejudice-esque, so I decided to watch it. Wow... I was not disappointed. Don't worry that I stayed up until two in the morning to finish it. Nate got up around then to get a drink or something and was totally mocking me. When I got into bed, I told him that I wasn't even sorry for being so unwise in staying up so late.

I honestly think that it is better than Pride & Prejudice. The acting is phenomenal, the music beautiful and perfect, wonderfully flowing story line with great emotional as well as romantic twists and turns. I honestly think that this is one of the most romantic movies ever made. The final scene is absolutely perfect. Often I am very disappointed by the climax of a movie as the acting makes it terrible, but not with this movie. There was no cringing at terribly delivered lines or poorly written scripts. That is actually one of my biggest problems with the new Pride & Prejudice... I think the acting is terrible. There are some worthy scenes, but the more I watch it, the more disappointed I am. Anyway... the point of the post is to tell you that if you are a hopeless romantic like me, you need to watch this movie. You will not regret it. It is definitely one that I can and will watch again and again. I think I just made Nate's job of getting me a Christmas gift MUCH easier!

Is it terribly to admit that I can't stand the new Pride and Prejudice for the very same reason. Thanks for the heads up on North and South. I'm always looking for something in that genre as background and when I need girly-ness.

I just watched North and South for the second time this week (it was about a year ago that I saw it for the first time) and I agree that it's better than P&P - I think it's such a fantastic story, terrificly acted and all around phenomenal. Glad you loved it.

Isn't it such a great show!? I'm so glad you watched it and enjoyed it. Ok, I love the scenes in the cotton mill with the white flowy cotton and then Mr. Thornton in black - with the music ... amazing stuff. Love it. Better go watch it again (it was my christmas present last year ;)
Oh! And I love Pilates - I did it at byu - Rebecca was my "teacher." Rebecca that is in your new ward - she is certified in Stott Pilates and really got me excited about it. She did a great job - really knows her stuff!

I must say I love reading your blog Morgan. Being able to hear about your life in New York is so fun and interesting. I hope to live somewhere interesting and have kids so my life is more enthralling to read about some day! Thanks for entertaining me at work!

Good to know. I'll have to go rent it. I always love a good movie or book recommendation.

This film should have a warning on the box - watch it all in one go, with chocolate and tissues on the side. Bet you watched the ending more than once!!

No one does period dramas like the BBC and this is probably the best thing they've done so far.

If you liked this and want some comic Gaskill instead of romantic Gaskill, try the BBC's Cranford. Brilliant in a totally different way.

Thanks for the movie heads up. I'm always looking for a new good movie. Also, you are a trooper for getting your kids all over the city. I think it's hard just to have to get Maisey in and out of the car then the stroller and then back in the car again. Good luck - at least you get to see some broadway shows now and then - right?? And the hot calves - that's always a plus! Just looking at the bright side...

Morgan,

A friend of mine told me about this site
smittenkitchen.com
I thought you might enjoy it since the author and cook has a similarly tiny kitchen in Manhattan and seems to pull of amazing creations. The photography is raw and beautiful! Check it out. Hope all is well. Merry Christmas.
