The kitchenETTE

Ok, so I am cheating. I told you I wasn't going to show you any pictures of our apartment until I had it looking better. But, Nate says that I only have until Sunday to talk about how much I hate my kitchen. Oh, I'm sorry... kitchenETTE!!! Yeah, he doesn't want to hear me complain about it anymore, to him or to anyone else, but I told him I needed to, I don't know why, maybe I want people to feel sorry for me?? Couldn't tell ya. So he gave me until Sunday, and then... no more. (At least not when he can hear it... hehe ;)

So, here is a picture of my kitchenETTE:

In this one, you can see the door jams, so you know that it is only as wide as a door frame

As you can see, there was approximately zero exaggeration when I told you that it was the size of a closet.  Oh, and in case you were thinking that part of it was cut off by the camera... it wasn't... this is all of it!!!  By the way, I can't really fit in that little space between the baby stove and the counter.  It is barely big enough to allow the cupboards to open all the way.  How am I supposed to create master pieces in that? It's hard enough to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in there, let a lone a pork roast and mashed potatoes and salad... or a scrumptious cake made from scratch with mint dark chocolate ganache with a chocolate mousse with strawberries in it???!!?!? I don't know if I can do it, to be honest with you. Last night, some friends from the ward had us over for dessert, and I was honestly coveting her tiny kitchen. Just the fact that her fridge was IN the kitchen, seemed like a luxury. Sigh...

Sympathies will be welcomed in the comments section.

i know i don't know you that well but i can certainly come out of blog stalking to send you my most heartfelt condolences in regards to your sad, pathetic excuse for a kitchen. whoa--that will be interesting for sure. just tell nate that he is not allowed to complain if he gets tomato soup and grilled cheese every night.

I am so sorry, I too am a blog stalker. I was reading before and feeling jealous about the cool adventures in the new city... now looking at your kitchen and thinking of my love of cooking, I am sad for you.

having spent 4 months complaining about the lack of counter space in my kitchen, i suddenly feel very humbled. while i thought i had the worst kitchen in the world... i must step aside and crown you the winner of the absolute worst kitchen in the world. i can tell you right now, without hesitation... i would die. literally. because i would starve to death sitting in my livingroom pouting about my stupid kitchen. i don't know if the sympathies help you or just make it worse... but i feel for you. i will be more appreciative of my poorly laid-out kitchen. i promise.

p.s. tell nate you can complain about the kitchen everyday he doesn't do the cooking in your house. :P

You have my deepest sympathies. I hate my new kitchen, especially the stove (or rather stovETTE) but I'd choose it over your kitchen anyday. I'm so sorry- it's only for a few years though, right?! Don't forget to post pictures of your culinary masterpieces when you finally break down and attempt something besides PB & J...

I didn't know there were so many people out there who hate their kitchens. I don't like mine either. Why are kitchens made so poorly then? Designers and architects have to eat too. Why don't they design something worth cooking in! So sorry Morgan!

ok, janaya, i am dying laughing from your comment. you kill me. thank you for your sympathies, it makes me feel much more justified in my complaining.

oh, and nate is all sad now, because he looks like the bad guy. he says he was only trying to help me move past the patheticness of my kitchen. he told me to say that!

Oh my gosh Morgan when you said you had a tiny kitchen I NEVER imagined this small! When we bought our house the only thing I looked at as the size of the kitchen and the counter space. You poor thing...this kitchen was made for a bachelor who only cooks frozen pizzas!

Morgan, hang in there! BTW, where is your fridge? I must have missed that in an earlier post!

Oh wow Morgs, I really do fell bad for you! That thing is awful. I guess the bright side is that you live in NY, you can order in or eat out, you have eleventy billion choices.

cannot wait to see it in person to experience the full ETTE!

Holy COW!!! I guess that's why most people eat out there huh? I am so sorry!
Take advantage of each day until Sunday and send us more pictures of your kitchenETTE!
Do you just have one small sink and no dish washer!? Where are you to put your dried dishes, let alone your dirty ones?

and sympathies you shall get. nate will realize your complaining was warranted when he only eats peanut butter sandwiches for the next two years. however, i have full confidence that you can continue to create your masterpieces in that kitchen...and some great memories along with them. and when we see the finished projects, we'll think even that much more highly of you. can't wait to see it in a few weeks.

:( Morgan, you are a champ for putting up with that cool kitchen! I don't think I could do it!

Oh Morgan. This is like your worst nightmare. I cringe at the thought of that, and I don't even cook that much. I must come to New York ASAP to comfort you.

Oh mylanta! I hate cooking (absolutely despise it!) but this kitchen would even make ME sad. And that is saying a lot. Good luck...is there a piece at IKEA that you can use to at least give you more storage and/or counter space? Maybe if you do everything (preparation, etc.) somewhere other than the actual kitchen, it won't seem so overwhelmingly small when you use it?

Oh my goodness! I can't wait to see the rest of your place. I can't imagine where on earth your fridge is! You are such a trooper!

Living in the big city sure does make you look at things a different way. I would need a big kitchen too if i was a good cook like you. Every woman needs a good venting. Do you feel better?
FYI- kendra is linked to a running group in NY.

whoa. i have to admit... i'm laughing really hard right now. not because i don't feel totally sorry for you, but because that has to be a joke, right? at least it's a smaller area to clean up. :)

I feel for you! I have heard tiny crappy kitchens are the price most pay to live in such a fabulous city. Perhaps that is why so many New Yorkers eat out pretty much every meal. Anyway, I have faith that you can work it out and still make some amazing meals and desserts.

Wow Morgan! I haven't been able to look at blogs for over a week as I've been in the hospital (long, fabulous story), but you win the crown for the worst kitchen ever! It's hard to even find the motivation to cook in something that small! I've had small kitchens before, but this one takes the cake...literally!

You have what Mike and I called in D.C. a "one butt kitchen." Meaning only one person can cook. We had one also in a 400 square foot studio where we had Savannah for a good while. To be fair... I think yours is a Half-butt kitchen.
